Drought Communities Extension Program

With the announcement of Bourke Shire Council being successful in its application for one (1) million dollars under the Drought Communities Extension Program, there are increased employment opportunities for the community of Bourke.

People who have had their work interrupted because of drought and are currently unemployed or have had their usual hours of employment reduced, are encouraged to register for short-term employment opportunities as a result of the Drought Communities Extension Program.

Persons with the following skill sets are particularly encouraged to register;

  • Fencing – both urban and rural fencing contractors
  • Carpentry / Building – all building trade contractors including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air-conditioning / refrigeration, painting and concreting
  • General Labourers – Fit and healthy individuals able to undertake direction from their supervisor, demonstrated prior experience with general maintenance skills would be highly regarded.
Essential Criteria for Labourers
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card) or willingness to obtain
  • Previous labouring experience
Essential Criteria for Contractors
  • Need own machinery, tools and PPE equipment.
  • Motor vehicle to travel to and from jobs
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card) or willingness to obtain
  • Public Liability Insurance at least $20 million, need copy of the Certificate of Currency
  • Motor Vehicle Insurance for any registered vehicle used while working for Council
  • Workers Comp Insurance if required
  • Willingness to comply with Bourke Shire Councils policies and procedures.

Please email your completed forms to bourkeshire@bourke.nsw.gov.au or hand deliver to the Bourke Shire Council office at 29 Mitchell Street, along with copies of insurances, registrations and qualifications if appropriate.

Expressions of interest will be open until 29th March 2019 however the faster you register, the more chance you have at being approached to provide quotations on projects or find casual employment associated with Drought Communities Extension Projects.
